Mrs. Nelson’s Sixth grade Social Studies
Entering the world of Social Studies during the sixth grade year is fascinating and eye-opening for many. I am looking forward to teaching your child, according to the North Carolina Standards, about the discipline of geography while using themes of location, place, movement, and human-environment interaction. We will study the expansion and decline of civilizations and societies from human beginnings to the Age of Exploration.
Students will enjoy delving into the history and culture of various world regions including the changes of economic and political/social systems.
Overall, the standards will be interwoven and organized around five strands: history, geography and environmental literacy, economics and financial literacy, civics and government and culture.
